As a Colorado wedding photographer, I know that choosing the right person to capture your big day can feel overwhelming and stressful. You’re not just hiring someone to take pictures; you’re trusting this person to document one of the most important moments of your life. I often get asked the same questions by couples who are eager to make sure their wedding photography goes smoothly, and I completely understand the concerns behind them. Below, I’ve compiled the 10 most common questions couples ask before booking me—along with my answers—to help ease the decision making process.
- What’s Your Photography Style?
One of the first questions I get is about my style.
My style blends candid, documentary photography with a touch of creative, posed portraits. The edits are true to color with motivated and sometimes moody lighting. I aim to capture real moments organically, so when you look back at your photos, they feel genuine and heartfelt. Whether you prefer light and airy or dark and moody, be sure your photographer’s style matches your vision. This should be the first thing you do when picking a Colorado wedding photographer.
2. Do You Have Experience with Colorado Weddings?
Yes, and it’s actually one of my favorite things about being a wedding photographer. Colorado’s landscape is unique, and the lighting and weather can change rapidly. With almost a decade of experience photographing weddings in mountain settings, I know how to adjust for lighting challenges and unpredictable weather. If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, hiring someone familiar with the terrain will give you peace of mind. There are a lot of great photographers from out of town but just be sure that they are up for the challenge that photographing in Colorado can often bring.
3. What’s Included in Your Wedding Packages?
My packages are designed to be flexible, so you can choose what best fits your day. Typically, they include a set number of hours with two photographers, an engagement session, high-resolution digital images, and an online gallery for easy sharing. Always ask what’s included to ensure there are no surprises later on; and be sure to get a signed contract!
4. How Do You Handle Stressful Situations?
Weddings are big, emotional days, and sometimes things don’t go exactly to plan. I’ve experienced everything from sudden rainstorms, loosing rings on the beach, to last-minute schedule changes, and I always stay calm. My goal is to keep the atmosphere relaxed and positive so that you don’t have to worry about a thing. When hiring a photographer, it’s essential to know they can handle anything the day throws at them with grace. I have spent most of my career as a freelance photojournalist so dealing with stressful situations is my middle name.
5. How Do You Ensure We Get the Photos We Want?
Before the big day, I love working with couples to create a shot list. This includes must-have family groupings, key moments, and any specific requests you have. However, I also believe in capturing spontaneous, natural moments that happen in between. I make sure to balance between getting those “must-have” shots and letting the day unfold naturally. Open communication ensures we’re on the same page.
6. Do You Offer Engagement Sessions?
Yes, I personally offer engagement sessions as part of most of my packages because I believe they’re a great way for us to get to know each other before the wedding. It’s a chance for you to get comfortable in front of the camera and for me to learn more about your dynamic as a couple. Plus, it’s a fun, low-pressure way to celebrate your engagement and create even more memories together.
7. How Many Weddings Do You Photograph Per Year?
This question often surprises people, but it’s an important one! I limit the number of weddings I book each year so that I can give each couple the attention they deserve. By not overbooking, I’m able to deliver my best work and provide a more personalized experience. It’s worth asking your photographer about their workload to ensure they’ll have the time to focus on your big day.
8. When Will We Receive Our Photos?
I know how eager couples are to see their photos, so I always provide a timeline upfront. For me, it typically takes about 6 to 8 weeks to deliver the full gallery, but I always send a sneak peek of highlights within a week of the wedding. Be sure to ask your photographer about their turnaround time and if they provide any previews to hold you over until the full set is ready. Again, read through your contract as it often has a timeline for image delivery.
9. Do You Have Backup Equipment?
Absolutely! I always bring backup cameras, lenses, and memory cards to every wedding. Having a backup plan for equipment failures is essential in this line of work, and I want to make sure you feel confident that no technical difficulties will get in the way of capturing your day. This is one question you should *always* ask your photographer to ensure they’re prepared for anything. I also back up all of your images in multiple places to help prevent any hard drive failure.
*Ask your photographer how they store there media and if they photograph on dual cards per camera.
10. How Do We Book You?
Booking is simple, Once you’ve decided I’m the right photographer for your wedding, I’ll send over a contract and require a deposit to secure your date. From there, we’ll work together to plan out the details, schedule your engagement session, and talk through your wedding day timeline. Booking early is key—Colorado wedding dates fill up very fast!
